From Emory & Henry University

Founded in 1836, Emory & Henry University is a coeducational liberal arts college in the Appalachian highlands of southwest Virginia. The University derives its name from John Emory, an eminent Methodist bishop of the era when the University was founded, and Patrick Henry, a renowned Virginian and a patriot of the American Revolution. The names represent principles that guide the University yet today: the vitality of faith and engaged citizenship. The University is one of only 40 institutions recognized in Loren Pope's "Colleges That Changes Lives."

The University boasts excellent professors who are committed to the success of their students. In recent years, six E&H professors have been named Carnegie Foundation state Professor of the Year, and one has been named U.S. Professor of the Year - a distinction shared by only a handful of colleges and universities in the nation. The success of these professors - and their students - has been, in part, due to a global perspective on education and the E&H emphasis on undergraduate research. The academic program includes more than 50 majors in approximately 25 fields of study.
