The NCATA Art Scholars Program

SAGE Scholars Educational Foundation Awards $5,000 to NCATA Art Scholars Program

The SAGE Scholars Educational Foundation recently awarded $5,000 to the North Country Art Teachers Association (NCATA) to support the NCATA Art Scholars program, a collaborative initiative with the St. Lawrence County Arts Council. This award aligns with the Foundation’s mission to enhance educational access through creative and impactful partnerships.

The NCATA Art Scholars Program

The NCATA Art Scholars program connects high school students in the North Country with professional artists through hands-on workshops, mentorship, and an annual exhibition. Launched as a pilot in the 2023-24 school year, the program successfully provided 18 students with a unique opportunity to develop their artistic skills and gain exposure to professional art practices. For the 2024-25 school year, the program is expanding to include 24 students, thanks in part to the financial support from the SAGE Scholars Educational Foundation.

“The Art Scholars program has been a dream realized through the passion and hard work of our teachers and community partners,” said Jason Hubbard, President of NCATA. “This funding will allow us to expand from 18 to 24 students, offering more young artists the chance to develop their talents and showcase their work.”

The Organizations Behind the Program

The NCATA, comprised of art educators dedicated to enhancing arts education in the region, collaborates closely with the St. Lawrence County Arts Council. The Arts Council, under the leadership of Managing Executive Director Erica Kelso and Artistic Executive Director Katharine Dinneen, plays a pivotal role in bringing the program to life by organizing workshops, coordinating with local artists, and providing a platform for students to display their work. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to fostering a vibrant arts community in the North Country.
