It's a day of tears, joy, and pride. This turning point in your child's life is also a huge one for you. For most parents, it is a moment of reluctantly letting go. It's a day when the clock starts ticking, reality sets in, and you realize your child will not be home again until holiday break. There's no turning clocks back, even if some may want to linger in the past for a little longer.

Commuters are the unsung heroes of college. They have to wake up every morning, battle rush-hour traffic, and make the same drive home regardless of the weather or hour. They are accountable to the campus rules, but they also have to follow them while living at home. They have better time management skills than most college students to factor in drive times, homework, class schedules, and extracurriculars.

The best way into a teacher's heart is to be a good student. A good student shows respect, pays attention, participates in class, works hard, asks questions, and turns in assignments on time. Teachers appreciate it when people recognize their efforts. By showing up as a good student, you show that you value the class and respect the time and effort the teacher puts in.

College can open up many opportunities. Advanced classes, intramural sports, fine arts, research internships, and other activities compete for students' time and attention. With so much going on, you might be surprised to learn that 43% of full-time college students also hold a job during the school year, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, and many of those students work more than 20 hours per week.

Despite everything I've learned about composition theory and practice over a few decades, the system that makes the most sense is the first one I learned. I think that's pretty incredible. Even better, you don't have to choose between paper and digital notes — the system works. For the sake of time and space, I'm assuming that you already have a strong topic and working thesis and have already found and verified valid sources.

It's almost inevitable you have a roommate at some point in college. In most cases, college dorms have two students in a room unless they are lucky enough not to have one or the school offers single-bedroom fixtures. Student apartments usually start at two bedrooms, with a maximum of four or five bedrooms. If college apartments offer single bedrooms, prepare to pay a considerable sum. I want to implore you to give your roommate a chance; here’s why.
